Tomorrow is the first introduction of the Challenge Court as a part of the Advanced game at 1:30. Below are some guidelines as to how the Challenge Court works. These will be posted on the bulletin board by the courts for future reference. Also note that the Challenge Court concept can be applied to any level so if other groups are interested in trying it out just let me know and we can work it into the schedule. This is a common practice at other Pickleball facilities around the country and I hope it brings some value to at least some of our players!
Challenge Court Guidelines
- The Challenge Court is an extension of the other Advanced courts
- Anyone with a DUPR account can either sign up, or join from the Advanced courts
- It is understood that all scores will be entered into DUPR unless all agree otherwise
- The first 4 registered players to arrive for the session can start play when ready
- Games are always played to 11, win by 2 with a cap at 13
- The "50/50" Rule is always in effect - no targeting or avoiding specific player
- The winning team stays on the court and plays the next challenging team
- The winning team gets to choose if they stay together or split
- After 3 wins in a row the winning team must relinquish the court and re-challenge
- Only one player needs to record the game afterwards - others can “verify” later
- Players can move onto the regular Advanced courts at any time if there is room
If you have any more specific questions please ask.
I'd like to play in the Challenge Court but I guess that I don't qualify... or do I, Nick? Are you planning one of these Challenge courts for the Advanced Intermediate? I'm hoping that at least some of these mid-morning and afternoon sessions take off.
The Challenge Court is best utilized as a level-based thing so there are not wide discrepancies in DUPR ratings, nor abilities. We can add a Challenge Court to the schedule if there is a critical mass of players interested in a certain time and level. Otherwise any match can be logged in DUPR as long as all 4 players have an active account.
Hi Nick, as many know, I like to play if I can since I'm here in the building now most days. But say for example, I have a 3pm meeting and have to leave a half hour early, should I not be signing up for these challenge courts? Or if I have a meeting ending at 2pm... is there no point arriving late? That's what I'm guessing but just want to make sure. I would love to participate but just not always able to play the full 2 hours.
The Challenge Court does not require you to be on it the entire time. It is like an extra court associated with the existing courts - in this case the other 2 Advanced courts. If there are less than four people to play on that court then those players can play on the Advanced courts.
oh great! Glad to hear it. Thanks!!!!
Can we scare up at least another 3 players for today? Come on!
I will arrive around 5:00 to 5:15
1-2 more would be ideal!
Tuesday 10:15 intermediates- had to sign out. Room for 1 more
