For awhile now we have been wanting to write down and communicate some of the important things we promote within our community. And now we have something for you...
GMCF Pickleball Culture Guide
We appreciate that people play pickleball for a wide variety of reasons
- Motivations range from fun-seeking to intense competition
- All intentions are valid, and important to the individual
- Our community can make space for all unique needs to co-exist
We spread a sense of belonging and equality on the GMCF courts
- Our facility is a safe place where everyone is welcome
- All who play pickleball are at the same level: human being
- DUPR scores and playing abilities are not a “pecking order”
We support less experienced players whenever possible - they are our future
- All players deserve the opportunity to learn from each other
- Occasionally playing up is expected behavior, as is playing down
- Share your knowledge and passion for pickleball generously
We prioritize our commitment to culture over our need for competition
- Be gracious to your fellow players on good days, and bad days
- Find and display the best version of yourself, regardless of score
- Be the most supportive partner as possible - no eye rolls please!
We remind ourselves frequently… “It’s just pickleball” - Billy Perreault, GMCF member
- Discrepancies on the court are not worth dragging out - just play on
- Pickleball is important to us, but it is not who we are
- Don’t take the game too seriously - we whack plastic over a net
I hope that we can all remind ourselves regularly of these basic tenets of our culture so that we can continue to flourish as a united pickleball community!
